Airpods Pro 2 hearing aid is not a treatment for “severe or profound” hearing loss

Apple unveiled new AirPods Pro 2 on September 9 that are set to dominate the entire tech industry, as they are tailored to cater for your unique requirements with several innovative features. The AirPods are dubbed as hearing aids, as they help prevent hearing loss and offer an acoustic audio experience.

Apple's Vice President of health, Sumbul Ahmad Desai said: “We’re adding this groundbreaking capability to help more than 1 billion people living with mild to moderate hearing loss.”

The company stated that the Airpods Pro2 hearing aid “sounds are clearer and more vibrant to your ears.” The Cupertino-based tech giant further added that this feature would efficiently utilise “machine learning to make real-time adjustments as you go about your day.”

Apple’s announcement follows FDA modifications

Around 30 million senior citizens of the United States (US) suffer from hearing loss, but unfortunately around one-fifth of them receive aid with the unique feature of a hearing aid, AirPods Pro 2 users would prevent this issue. 

To access it, AirPods Pro 2 users would require a rest that will later on analyse their issue by playing a series of tones.

“After you take a hearing test, your AirPods Pro is transformed into a personalised hearing aid, boosting specific sounds you need in real-time, like parts of speech or elements within your environment,” Desai added.

FDA said that “over-the-counter AirPods pro 2 hearing aid is certainly not a treatment for “severe or profound” hearing loss, as FDS suggested young individuals under the age of 18 for doctor’s prescription before using them. Moreover, individuals suffering from hearing loss also must consult a doctor before using them.

However, it is “very soon” to receive FDA clearance, you can get the hearing assistance features later this year thorugh software updates in over 100 countries such as Japan, Germany, the USA, and more.
