The e-commerce juggernaut Amazon last year in September included the Echo Show 8 Photos Edition to the series of its smart display, but exactly a year after this addition, the gadget is going to have its primary functionality nixed.
Amazon end support for PhotosPlus service Echo Show 8
Photo displaying was presumably the primary reason many people invested in the Echo Show 8 Photos Edition, and the knockout of the feature will, unfortunately, turn a charming display device into a simple Echo Show 8.

Available at a $10 costlier price tag than the standard Echo Show 8 and requiring a $2 monthly subscription to Amazon’s PhotosPlus after a six-month free trial, the Echo Show 8 Photos Edition was launched in September 2023 along with the third-gen Echo Show 8 and Echo Hub.
The device served as a digital photo frame and offered, with the PhotosPlus subscription, of course, 25GB of storage through Amazon Photos.
Now that the service is being pulled the plug, the Echo Show 8 Photos Edition users will be bound to see not pictures of their beloved pets or a memorable vacation last year, but advertisements.
As reported by PC Mag, Amazon notified customers via email this week, clearly stating that it's ending support for the PhotosPlus service after September 23.
"After your subscription period ends, photos will no longer be the primary home screen content on your Echo Show 8. However, you can continue to use the 25GB of Amazon Photos storage," read Amazon's email.
How to view my Echo Show camera remotely from phone
To view your Echo Show camera remotely from your phone, open the Alexa app, go to "Devices," select your Echo Show, and tap on "Camera." This enables you to view the live feed. Ensure you have enabled the "Home Monitoring" feature on your Echo Show for remote access.
