Earlier this year, Amazon made an announcement regarding the integration of ads into its Prime Video service. The company has now disclosed a specific date for the commencement of this change, which is set to be January 29th.

In an email to customers, Amazon explained that this move is aimed at sustaining investments in quality content over an extended period.

No immediate action is required from users, and there is no alteration to the existing price of Prime memberships. However, for those who wish to avoid ads altogether, a new option allows them to pay an additional $2.99 per month.

Amazon Prime: Pricing adjustments and customer reactions

The email also emphasises the various benefits of a Prime subscription in an effort to retain customers who may be discontent with the addition of advertisements. With Amazon Prime currently priced at $14.99 per month or $139 annually, the ad-free option would raise the cost to just under $18.

Additionally, the standalone Prime Video subscription would increase to just under $12. The decision comes in the context of rising subscription rates and the inclusion of ads by competing streaming services, prompting varied reactions from Amazon Prime users.
