Amazon is planning to shut down its free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service Freevee. The update will be deployed in the regions where Freevee is currently available: the US, the UK, Germany and Austria.
Deadline, the premier news source covering the business of entertainment, reported that the entertainment platform's content has been successfully migrated to Prime Video, offering Freevee's new episodes to both Prime and non-Prime users.
Is Freevee shutting down?
Freevee, an American ad-supported video-on-demand (VOD) streaming service with original and licensed programming was launched in 2019 as IMDb Freedive. It was later rebranded to IMDB TV and then to Freevee in 2022.
The platform had its original content, such as Bosch: Legacy and Jury Duty; however, Amazon added some Prime Video content to the service later in 2023.

“To deliver a simpler viewing experience for customers, we have decided to phase out Freevee branding,” an Amazon spokesperson stated.
“There will be no change to the content available for Prime members, and a vast offering of free streaming content will still be accessible for non-Prime members, including originals from Amazon MGM Studios, a variety of licensed movies, and a broad library of FAST Channels available on Prime Video,” the spokesperson added.
Notably, speculations about Freevee going away circulated earlier in February, when Adweek reported that Amazon was planning to end Freevee following the introduction of an ad tier on Prime Video in late January.
