Android 15 is expected to integrate an enhanced desktop mode, particularly for tablets that won’t need external displays. The feature was under the rumours for a long period. Now, it has been finally spotted in one of the beta update codes.

Previously, Google has optimised Android’s in-built desktop mode with new features. The additions were to improve the multitasking aspects of smartphones with new window management tools and features.

What’s in it?

These features include snapping windows, new hover options, window resizing, and many other major capabilities. While they are confined to smartphones.

Whereas, the latest Android 15 beta 4.1 upgrade displays a hidden desktop mode, especially for tablets. The benefit of this feature is that users can run it directly on their tablet devices without any need for external display equipment.

Pixel users would be able to run desktop mode on their phones and tablets, relatable to Samsung DeX which works directly on Galaxy phones and tablets.

Moreover, the modified Android 15 desktop mode for tablets would reside on the recent screen. Tapping on the dropdown menu of any app would display a “Desktop” option that would open an application in a freedom slide on the tablet. You would be able to move, snap it side, resize, minimise, maximise, or share it with other app windows.
