Google is testing a new feature that could change the way notification icons look in Android. The current designs of notification icons are subdued, with little colour.
However, a new flag in the operating system's source code suggests that the application icons could show for notifications instead, which will make the icons more vibrant and colourful to set them apart easily.
Notification icons are a huge part of the Android experience, which identifies at a glance that the app, is sending the user a notification. These subdued icons currently may not be as attention-calling.

How new feature work?
This means that with this feature, notifications on the status bar, always-on-display (AOD), and other places will be able to use app icons.
Additionally, some alternatives enable or use colourful icons or just flat monochromatic icons with a tint of colour based on the theme. The flexibility will be there for the users to opt for whatever they like.
The new upgrade enhances the way this feature looks like. Notifications are going to look should this feature go live. The coloured icons make identification at a glance that much easier, especially for visually impaired users.
