Apple released the new iPhone 16 series along with new features and hardware improvements such as a new A18 chip and Wi-Fi 7 support for a potential internet speed boost on the entire iPhone 16 lineup.

Earlier this year, the Wi-Fi Alliance, a worldwide network of Wi-Fi companies, launched Wi-Fi 7, introducing significant upgrades such as lower latency and much higher transfer speeds that enable the transmission of more data in less time.

The Wi-Fi 7-supported devices are essential for live streaming at resolutions higher than 4K and are a perfect option for 8K streaming, online games, and AR/VR devices with 3D content like Apple Vision Pro.

Wi-Fi 7 support on iPhone 16 series

Notably, the Wi-Fi 7 support wasn’t showcased during Apple’s "It’s Glowtime" event on Monday, the company briefly teased this capability later in its specs sheets cataloguing the various features coming to the iPhone 16 devices.

The footnote on the specs sheet also confirmed that Wi-Fi 7 also known as 802.11be, will be supported on all four iPhone models which includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

With Wi-Fi 7, the new iPhone devices can send and receive data over the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands with more reliable connectivity. Other smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy S24+ and the OnePlus 11 5G also supported the Wi-Fi 7.

While these Wi-Fi 7 routers usually cost $300 or more, the iPhone 16 smartphones specifically in the US will get it as a built-in capability.
