Owing to intensifying competition from native smartphone manufacturers like Huawei in China, the margin of success for US-based tech giant Apple has significantly reduced, prompting it to offer the latest iPhone 16 series at discounts of up to 500 yuan ($68.50).
The discount offer on the latest iPhone 16 series will reportedly run from January 4-7, while it will also be applied to some other iPhone models if users opt for specific payment methods, according to Reuters.
The biggest price cut of 500 yuan will be executed on Apple's flagship iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Meanwhile, the remaining bottom-tier variants of the series, including the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, will be offered at 400 yuan off.
The alluring discount offer comes on the heels of buyers increasingly getting cautious with their spending, given the improving economy of China and deflationary pressures.
With China being the biggest smartphone maker, its economic posture of China has caused Apple to observe a decreasing market share in the country.
Only a few months after its comeback to the premium smartphone segment in August 2023, China-based Huawei rose to considerable popularity, eventually becoming a formidable contender against Apple.
On New Year's Eve, Huawei offered a variety of its high-end devices, including mobile phones, at discounts of up to 3,000 yuan on one of China's leading e-commerce platforms.
