Apple releases new firmware for AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4

Apple began to roll out a new firmware update on Wednesday for the recently unveiled AirPods Pro 4, as well as AirPods Pro 2, focusing on the bug fixes and overall performance improvements. 

The new update comes just a week after the tech giant updated the AirPods Pro 2 firmware to integrate several new iOS 18 features, including head gestures for Siri interactions, Voice Isolation, and personalised volume improvements.

New AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 firmware update

The firmware update for the AirPods Pro 2 is available for both the Lightning and USB-C versions and has a build number of 7A302, up from 7A294 while the firmware version for the new AirPods 4 is version 7A304. 

Reportedly, this update could potentially introduce hearing aid and hearing test functionality to the AirPods Pro 2 or might lay the foundation for a future update. Notably, this Hearing aid functionality will not be included in the AirPods 4. 

Here’s how to check AirPods firmware version

  1. Firstly, open the “Settings” app on the iPhone.
  2. Now, navigate to the “Bluetooth” menu.
  3. Look for your AirPods in the list of devices.
  4. Next, tap the “i” icon next to the devices.
  5. Check the “Firmware Version” number.

Following the recent update, the current firmware versions of Apple’s AirPods models are as follows. 

  • AirPods Pro (Lightning and USB-C) (2nd generation): 7A302
  • AirPods Pro 1: 6A326
  • AirPods Pro 4 with ANC: 7A304
  • AirPods 4: 7A304
  • AirPods 3: 6A326
  • AirPods 2: 6A326
  • AirPods Max: 6A326
  • AirPods (1st generation): 6.8.8
