Apple is reportedly developing a redesigned Magic Mouse to address long-standing user complaints. The update is expected to improve the device’s ergonomics and resolve the widely criticised charging port placement.
Currently, Magic Mouse requires users to flip the device upside down before they can charge it, meaning one cannot make use of it at all as the mouse cannot be accessed since it is upside down.
This has been a severe hindrance for users. According to Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a modern version that does not have these issues.
Focus on comfort and functionality
In addition to the charging problem, Apple's new Magic Mouse will likely be more ergonomic in design. Many users find the current model uncomfortable to use over a long period of time due to its flat shape.
While details are yet to be confirmed, Apple might learn lessons from ergonomic devices like the Logitech MX Master to produce an easier-to-use product.
Possible release timeline and features
The new Magic Mouse is still in the early development stage and is reported to take 12 to 18 months before it can be released to the market. That will put it sometime in 2026, potentially with new MacBook Pro models sporting OLED displays.
Mark Gurman speculates that the ultimate aim is to develop a product that would be appropriate for a new era while considering all such long-standing complaints. The product will definitely see refinement in its design as well as usability, making it a significant contender in the market Magic Mouse.
The redesigned Magic Mouse is expected to be a significant step forward, addressing key pain points and delivering a better experience for Apple users.
