Apple Sports is set to offer a new way for sports enthusiasts to stay updated with the NFL and college football games with the release of iOS 18 and watchOS 11 next month.

Apple Sports is a free app for iPhone that gives sports fans access to real-time scores, stats, and more. Starting with iOS 18, the app will provide live activities for games and update sports scores directly on the iPhone lock screen.

The tech giant has updated its sports app ahead of the 2024 season. With the iOS 18 launch, users can follow games available in the app with a new field-view tracker that will show an at-a-glance view of scores on the iPhone and Apple Watch lock screen.

Users can also choose which teams in the Sports app they want to receive live activities for, and scores will be sent to the user’s lock screen automatically when matches start.

Currently, this functionality is only available while following sports like MLB and MLS using the Apple TV app. However, with the iOS 18 release, these live activities will no longer be available in the TV app.

Furthermore, Apple also promised a new, drop-down navigation for the main scorecard views in an app update later this year. This feature will allow fans to switch between My Leagues, My Teams, and users’ feeds for their favourite leagues faster.

However, the company also revealed that in addition to North American football, Apple Sports will be adding the UEFA Champions League and Europa League next month.
