Apple is reportedly working on a new version of its iPad mini that will feature a larger screen and an OLED display. The iPad mini is the smallest tablet in Apple’s lineup, with a screen size of 8.3 inches. However, the next-generation iPad mini will have an 8.7-inch screen, which is 0.4 inches bigger than the current model.

The new iPad mini will use an OLED display, which offers better contrast, brightness, and colour accuracy than the LCD display used in the current model. OLED displays are also thinner and more energy-efficient, which could improve the battery life and portability of the iPad mini.

When will the new iPad mini launch?

According to a report from a Korean news outlet, ETNews, Apple has already ordered OLED panels from Samsung Display for the new iPad mini. The new iPad mini will be launched in 2026, along with a new iPad Air that will also use an OLED display. The iPad Air is the mid-range tablet in Apple’s lineup, with a screen size of 10.9 inches. The new iPad Air will have the same screen size but with an OLED display instead of an LCD one.

Apple is planning to upgrade its iPad Pro models with OLED displays in 2024. The iPad Pro is the flagship tablet in Apple’s lineup, with screen sizes of 11 inches and 12.9 inches. The new iPad Pro models will use a double-stack OLED display, which is more advanced and durable than the single-stack OLED display that will be used in the new iPad mini and iPad Air.

Double-stack OLED display will support ProMotion

The double-stack OLED display will also support ProMotion, which is Apple's term for a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz. ProMotion allows for smoother scrolling, animations, and gaming on the iPad Pro. Apple will introduce a new 12.9-inch iPad Air in 2027, which will use a next-generation OLED display that will improve the light efficiency and reduce the power consumption.

The new OLED display will also enable an under-screen camera, which could eliminate the need for a notch or a bezel on the iPad Air. Although Apple has not officially confirmed any of these rumours, it seems that Apple is committed to bringing OLED technology to its entire iPad lineup in the next few years. This could make the iPad more attractive and competitive in the tablet market, as well as offer a better user experience for its customers.
