Apple is planning a major update to its virtual assistant Siri, using innovative artificial technology (AI) technology to make it more interactive and versatile.

The move came after Apple's top software executives felt Siri was lagging behind competitors like ChatGPT, which can write poetry, generate computer code and answer complex questions.

Apple's new approach will allow Siri to chat and answer multiple questions instead of just responding to a request. The update is part of a broader effort in which Apple promotes its business generative AI.

The company is expanding the memory in this year's iPhones to support its new Siri capabilities and has discussed licensing complementary AI models from companies such as Google, Coheer, and OpenAI.

While Siri has struggled to keep up with the competitors, Apple has several advantages in the AI race, including over two billion devices in use worldwide and a leading semiconductor team capable of powering AI tasks like facial recognition.
