Apple’s iOS 18.1 developer beta introduced an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered feature that allow users to record and transcribe phone calls. Users with access to the iOS 18.1 beta can tap the new 'record' button in the top-left corner of the call screen to keep an audio log of their call.

How it works

  • Once turned on, all callers will hear a message saying, “This call will be recorded.”
  • The Phone app will then record the call.
  • While automatically creating a transcription that will display in the Notes app.
  • Additionally, users will be able to access the full audio recording and an AI-generated summary of the call in the Notes app.

The Cupertino-based tech giant, Apple initially displayed phone call recording during its Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

The feature looks useful for journalists who often conduct interviews over the phone and could even come in handy if you’re taking an essential call from a doctor and need to remember exactly what they said.

Meanwhile, Apple Intelligence features in the iOS 18.1 developer beta involve natural language search in photos, email summaries in the Mail app, and an upgraded Siri design.
