Aptoide, a popular Google Play alternative is expanding its reach to iOS devices in the European Union. The company is launching a third-party iOS game store, the first of its kind since the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA) rules came into force.
What's Aptoide?
Aptoide is a popular app for Android devices that offers a wide range of apps and games. With its expansion to iOS, Aptoide aims to provide a new platform for developers to reach users and for users to discover new games.
The Aptoide iOS game store is launching with invite-only access codes with a waiting list of 20,000 signups. The store will initially feature seven games, including Slittier, Charades and Mahjong, with new games added every week.

Aptoide has partnered with over 100 iOS developers, with 30 games currently in the process of being integrated. Aptoide is the first third-party iOS marketplace in Europe to launch with an Apple-approved in-app purchase (IAP) solution.
However, instead of passing on the 50 pound cent Core Technology Fee (CTF) to users, Aptoide will charge developers a fee for in-app purchases. This approach aims to cover costs without burdening consumers.
Moreover, Aptoide's entry into the iOS market is a significant challenge to Apple's dominance. Other alternative iOS app stores, such as Setapp and AltStore PAL, have also launched in the EU, each with its approach to offset the CTF.
