The recent launch of Call of Duty Mobile Warzone on iOS has sparked an intriguing performance battle between Apple's iPhone 15 Pro Max and leading gaming smartphones. In a recent test focusing on the "HIGH" graphics setting, ASUS' ROG Phone 8 Pro emerged as the frontrunner, outperforming its competitor by 7.5 percent.

A chart analysis by Dame Tech revealed the performance of three flagship devices: the iPhone 15 Pro Max, ROG Phone 8 Pro, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Notably, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was the only device tested with the "PEAK" graphics setting.

This exclusivity raises questions about the compatibility of Android flagships, particularly those with the Snapdragon 8 Gen, with this high-end visual setting. The underlying reasons, whether related to software optimisation or hardware limitations, remain unclear.

In the "HIGH" setting, ASUS' ROG Phone 8 Pro showcased its prowess with a 7.5 percent lead over the iPhone 15 Pro Max, achieving 81.3FPS. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 Ultra lagged behind with 56.7FPS, despite its slightly overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The superior performance of the ROG Phone 8 Pro could be attributed to its advanced cooling system, which enables optimal functioning of its 8-core CPU cluster and Adreno 750 GPU.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max, lacking a bulky vapour chamber like its ROG counterpart, still managed to deliver a robust performance. Operating at a stable temperature of 41 degrees Celsius, it matched the thermals of the ROG Phone while delivering 62FPS in the PEAK setting. The efficiency of its A17 Pro chipset, built on a 3nm process, played a significant role in this achievement.

This comparison sets the stage for future matchups, especially with the anticipated launch of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 later this year, which could potentially support the highest visual settings in Call of Duty Mobile Warzone. For the time being, iPhone 15 Pro Max users can enjoy a distinct advantage in gaming performance.
