Baldur's Gate III, the eagerly awaited Role-Playing Game (RPG), might not be available to Xbox consoles until 2024, as disclosed by Michael Douse, Publishing Director at Larian Studios.
Baldur's Gate III Xbox release date
The PC version was scheduled to release on August 3, 2023. Later on, it was learnt that the PS5 version will be rolled out on September 6, 2023; however, there have been no announcements regarding the launch of the Xbox Series S/X.
The deferment is not due to any exclusivity agreement, but rather technological constraints related to split-screen co-op functionality on the less powerful Xbox Series S consoles.
Larian Studios CEO, Swen Vincke, confirmed that function parity between both Xbox consoles is important for them, despite any desires from Microsoft.
The team is committed to including uninterrupted cooperative gameplay with easy entry and exit on the Xbox Series S, a feat not achieved in other RPGs of this magnitude.
However, implementing the split-screen co-op has proved arduous, especially when multiple characters participate in separate missions and battles, requiring considerable Random Access Memory (RAM) utilisation.
The game's mammoth size, boosting cinematics that run for over 174 hours and varied romance options, has played a role in its reputation.
Players will not be able to preload the game on account of extensive modifications made during development, requiring a fresh start even for those who played it during early access.
