After spending a few weeks familiarising herself with colleagues, Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer officially assumed the role of new CEO of the Telenor Group on December 2, 2024.

Prior to securing a top role at Telenor, Fasmer served as the CEO of Sparebank1 Sør-Norge.

“Telenor has a strong footprint in both the Nordics and Asia. I will now use some time to listen, learn and understand our business, customers and people. Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to get a head start in recent weeks. I have already met many talented people who are really passionate about Telenor’s success. I really look forward to officially joining the team,” said the new CEO of Telenor Group.

The appointment of a new Telenor CEO comes after Sigve Brekke served the position in question for nearly a decade.

It's worth noting that the announcement for appointing a new CEO was made in May earlier this year, however, the appointment took place on Monday.

“Benedicte has demonstrated strong leadership and vision. Telenor has delivered impressive results in turbulent times, but the pace of technological advancement demands continued innovation. I’m confident that Benedicte is the right leader to chart our future course,” said Telenor’s board chairman Jens Petter Olsen while commending Fasmer’s capabilities.

Succeeding Sigve Brekke, Fasmer is a veteran in the group management of DNB and Fremtind Forsikring besides having served as the CEO of Sparebank 1 Sør-Norge for the last four years.

Moreover, she also brings to the table board experience from the Oslo Stock Exchange and Vipps. She has also been a member of Norges Bank’s Supervisory Council.
