Social media platform Bluesky, the archrival of X (formerly Twitter), has released a fresh in-app video and music player for links, besides a "hide post" feature to enhance its user experience in a bid to compete with X (formerly Twitter).
Setting its own norm to emerge as a distinctive social media app, the player is compatible with YouTube, SoundCloud, Spotify, and Twitch embeds, and stands out by not defaulting to autoplay, requiring users to tap to play the multimedia content.
The new features have come on the heels of an earlier announcement in which the developers allowed users to view posts without logging into their accounts, Tech Crunch reported.
The announcement of the new features was also made from the developer's official account on the platform.
The novel "hide post" function has been introduced by Bluesky to allow users to click and eliminate content they wish to avoid.

As per the company, the post does not only get removed from feeds but also discreetly concealed when directly accessed.
Additionally, the app has also resolved issues like muted and blocked account listings appearing empty, which was an occasional empty home screen glitch, and a thread interaction crash bug.
Launched in February, the app has already amassed 2 million users, while further aiming for federation early next year, envisioning a more open social network similar to Mastodon which allows users to freely select and switch between different servers.
