Moreover, the app comes with a “discover” feed, including a chronological feed of what the account is following. It also offers features like direct messaging, pinned posts, and “starter packs.”

Bluesky’s user growth

Bluesky’s number of users has increased rapidly from 13 million in late October to 15 million by the middle of November. Discontent among the X users, especially after the elections, and 2.6 million users joined Bluesky. When X was banned in Brazil in August, 85% of the sign-ups were from Brazil.

It spiked with 500,000 new users in one day in October after X blocked accounts from viewing public posts. The new users consisted of many journalists, left-leaning politicians and celebrities who were drawn towards Bluesky because of its ad-free and hate-speech-free environment.

X's response to Bluesky’s growth

X claims that it still dominates the global conversations because of the US elections and has set new records for its engagement.

Bluesky is aiming to create a “protocol for public conversation” so that users can interact across different social networks, such as emails or phone numbers, rather than just sticking to one specific app. Other Tech Giant platform companies aim to isolate their platforms and maintain their advertising, while Bluesky aims to break these silos.
