ChatGPT have disrupted the educational systems taking them by storm, as students are increasingly using generative artificial intelligence (AI) to complete their projects, assignments and exams to earn good grades and credits for the work as their own.
According to research conducted by Peter Scarfe and his colleagues at the University of Reading in the UK, teachers were found largely unable to detect AI-generated academic writing. The increasing usage of AI poses a significant threat to high school diplomas and college degrees.
This also aggravated problems regarding underqualified individuals entering a critical profession such as engineering, firefighting and nursing, where the lack of knowledge can end up with severe consequences.
This rapid increase in AI use is an alarming situation all over the world, as the situation is getting even worse with the schools permitting the use of AI.
The study provided shocking results as students submitting AI-generated assignments were undetected in more than 97% of cases.
The study also indicated that the 6% detection rate might be exaggerated when compared to actual cheating scenarios, which is quite concerning.
The difficulty in identifying text between AI and humans is very problematic it is increasing day by day even the trained linguists struggle to differentiate between the two.
