ChatGPT experienced an outage on November 8, leaving thousands of users temporarily unable to access the AI platform and raising concerns about its reliability. 

The unexpected downtime disrupted services for individuals and businesses that rely on the tool, prompting discussions about the need for improved stability and backup measures.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman admits that there is a need for improvement in reliability despite the latest advancements.

ChatGPT outage impact

ChatGPT and AI service providers have gradually become a basic need of our growing society. In a fast-moving society, a chatbot that can write down your ideas in proper format and structure in a matter of seconds is essential for this fast-paced world that we live in. 

Therefore, the slightest outage can affect greatly its vast audience and may cause the users to lose their interest. Current AI service providers, can let the consumer rate drop and make them seek refuge in other available options.

Downdectector outage tracking site reported that over 19,400 users were affected greatly by this 30-minute outage. Since the launch of ChatGPT OpenAI in November, it has gained 250 million weekly active users. The OpenAI have surged to $157 billion in 2024 from $14 billion in 2021, with their total revenue reaching $3.6 billion.
