Cyberpunk 2077 is reportedly working to introduce a multiplayer mode for its players that aims to offer unique elements in the game.

The codename for the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is currently under development. Multiplayer mode was initially intended for Cyberpunk 2077 earlier, but it was called off due to its main focus on fixing the base of the game.

The developer of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red (CDPR), hints at the elements of the multiplier in Project Orion. However, there has been no official confirmation of these widely spread rumours.

CDPR's main focus has been on a single-player mode so far, which could dive into the world of multiplayer but poses challenges and opportunities at the same time.

If Project Orion includes a multiplayer mode, it could provide users with co-op or competitive shooter leveraging Cyberpunk’s 2077 combat mechanics. It can probably be more inspired by games like GTA Online type of concepts.

Cyberpunk 2077 might feature

Cyberpunk 2077 already offers elements of an urban crime-focused open world just like that of GTA. Project Orion can expand with the aspect of a quasi-MMO/life simulator.

Cyberpunk 2077 has the possibility of over-world interactions between different players, which allows them to engage in activities such as races, heists, and team death matches. This approach could work greatly to enhance the gaming experience for its consumers.

Cyberpunk 2077 potential downsides

Adding these things can risk microtransactions, which is a major criticism of GTA Online. CDPR would need to balance monetisation so that it can avoid practices like maintaining player engagement.

Moreover, Rockstar has deprioritized its Red Dead Online, which eventually creates opportunities for its competitors. A cyberpunk-themed multiplier can give a Sci-Fi alternative to GTA as it provides a grounded theme.

The Night City of Cyberpunk could add a fresh futuristic look with a twist of diverse player interactions.
