A notorious hacker group executed a severe cyber attack earlier this week at Dewan Farooque Motors Limited (DFML), compromising key corporate data and crashing servers.

The prominent automobile manufacturer in Pakistan brought the state of its vulnerability to light in a notification issued to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday.

According to stakeholders informed by the automaker, the process of reinstating the integrity of its systems—including financial data, servers, and information from the first quarter ending September 30, 2024—will reportedly take a long time.

"We regret to inform you that owing to malware and cyber-attack our IT servers have been crashed and data have been corrupted badly, resulting in postponing the board meeting. Accordingly, you are informed that the board meeting has been postponed till the time of its restoration," stated an official statement from DFML following the cyber attack.

The company has so far not disclosed insights into the amount of data loss, monetary loss, and the duration it will take to stabilise its data and other services.

Given the cyber attack, the publicly traded company's shares dipped by Rs1.34, or 3.37%, leading to close at Rs38.44.

Details regarding the methods and loopholes hackers exploited to launch the attack are scarce, and so is the reason behind it.
