Facebook notifies screenshots, but when?

Screenshot notifications are a feature that some apps use to alert users when someone takes a screenshot of their content. For example, Snapchat will send a notification to the sender if the receiver screenshots their snap or chat. This is done to protect the privacy and security of the users, as well as to prevent the misuse of their content.

However, not all apps have this feature, and Facebook is one of them. Currently, Facebook does not notify users when someone takes a screenshot of their pictures in the main feed or on their profile. One can capture screenshots of images shared on Facebook without triggering any notifications to the person who originally posted.

Does Facebook notify screenshots of stories?

Facebook stories, short-lived posts that disappear after 24 hours, are similar to Instagram stories, which are also owned by Meta (formerly Facebook). However, unlike Instagram, Facebook does not notify screenshots of stories either. You can screenshot any story on Facebook without the creator knowing.

Does Facebook notify screenshots of messages?

Facebook messages are the private chats that you have with your contacts on Messenger or WhatsApp. These messages are encrypted and can only be seen by you and the person you are talking to. However, there is one exception where Facebook does notify screenshots of messages: disappearing messages.

Disappearing messages are a feature that allows you to send messages that automatically vanish after a set time. You can enable this feature for any chat on Messenger or WhatsApp by tapping the timer icon and choosing how long you want the messages to last. The messages will disappear from both devices after the timer expires.

However, if someone takes a screenshot of a disappearing message on Messenger, you will get a notification that says “Someone took a screenshot” in the chat. This is done to prevent people from saving your sensitive or confidential information without your consent. WhatsApp does not have this feature yet, so you will not get notified if someone screenshots your disappearing message on WhatsApp.

How to turn off Facebook screenshot notifications?

As we have seen, Facebook does not notify screenshots of most content, except for disappearing messages on Messenger. Therefore, there is no way to turn off Facebook screenshot notifications for other types of content. However, if you want to disable screenshot notifications for disappearing messages on Messenger, you can do so by following these steps:

  1. Open the Messenger app and tap your profile icon at the top left corner.
  2. Tap Privacy > Secret Conversations.
  3. Toggle off the Screenshot Notifications option.
