Ford Motor recently announced an overwhelming news that sparked more intrigue for all the automobile enthusiasts in Chennai, India as the company revealed its plans to restart the manufacturing plant for exports in Tamil Nadu, India.
A letter of intent (LOI) submitted to the Tamil Nadu Government on Friday, Ford stated: "The move will see the facility re-purposed to focus on manufacturing for export to global markets."
Over a few years ago, Ford ceased car manufacture and pulled the plug on exports in India, as it was experiencing severe challenges to boost maximum revenue in a highly competitive market dominated by Asian rivals.

Currently, the company has committed to continue support for almost one million Indian customers through after-sales parts, support, along warranty services, which is quite impressive.
However, the details regarding cars that Ford plans to create at the facility are still under wraps which are yet to be announced by the company later.
Under the latest strategy, the Chennai facility will be modified to deeply focus on exporting vehicles to the international markets, which is aligned with Ford’s broader Ford+ growth strategy.
Ford International Market Group President Kay Hart said: “We are grateful for the ongoing support from the Tamil Nadu Government as we explored different options for the Chennai plant.”
Additionally, Ford has employed around 12,000 workers in Chennai, India. However, it plans to diversify it further to 2,500-3,000 jobs by bringing more opportunities till 2027.
