Google has been adding features to its Gmail app for Android and is now introducing new sorting filters to improve the search experience.

Recently, the email service added various helpful artificial intelligence (AI) features such as "Help me write" and "Polish" to ensure emails are always top-notch.

Gmail’s new search filters

As per Android Police, the tech giant has started rolling out these search filters, allowing users to sort emails by “Most recent” or “Most relevant. In October, an APK teardown also uncovered the feature in Gmail's Android version.

This new tool replaces the existing “Top results” section, which earlier displayed relevant emails at the top, followed by other results in reverse chronological order.

With this recent update, Gmail users will see a filter button under the existing search options such as Labels, From, To, Attachment, Date, Is unread, and Exclude calendar updates.

By tapping this option, users will se a menu where users can choose the “Most recent” or “Most relevant”, making it easier to find specific emails. This results in personalising users’ email search experience.

The new filter feature is rolling out, and some users can already see it on the web version. This rollout also indicates that a wider release for mobile apps may follow shortly.
