Google integrated Gemini AI on Gmail with the launch of its “Help me write” feature and is now upgrading it with a “Polish” and a “Refine my draft” feature on Android, iOS, and the web.
Google announced the rollout in a recent Workspace Updates blog, revealing that the new Polish feature will be available as a part of its “Help me write” feature on Gmail.
The feature will allow users to enter their rough notes into a draft. With the help of Gemini, it will turn the content into a completely formal draft which they can access for reviewing with just one click.

These new shortcuts for “Help me write” and ‘Refine my draft” will appear in the body section of the email when an email draft is empty. By tapping on it users can get a full “help me write” experience.
However, the “Refine my draft” will be shown when there are at least 12+ words present in an email draft. The feature will have options including Polish, Formalise, Elaborate, Shorten your draft, and Write a new draft.
After entering some text, tap the pencil with the sparkle icon in the toolbar for “Polish” and Google will let you regenerate or replace the text quickly.
The Polish feature in Gmail is widely rolled out for Google One AI Premium, Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on, and Gemini Education and Education Premium on the web, Android, and iOS, whereas the "Help me write" and "Refine my draft" shortcuts are available only on Android and iOS.
