In a surprise move, Google has announced that it is stopping production of its popular Chromecast streaming devices, the devices that turn any television into a smart TV.
However, after over a decade of selling the affordable universal serial bus (USB), the company is shifting its focus to the newly announced Google TV Streamer.
Chromecast has been a popular streaming device in the tech market since its launch that aims to offer an affordable way to stream content to TVs.

However, according to Google, the technology has been evolving dramatically since, then so it's time to move on with the integration of new technologies.
What is Google TV Streamer?
Google TV Streamer is streaming devices that transforms your TV to a smart one by offering you your favourite apps for movies, shows and live TV all on one platform.
It comes with an even faster processor and supports Thread and Matter, among many other capabilities. It's the largest upgrade to Chromecast and costs $99.99 — more expensive than the last model — leaving space for an inexpensive streaming device in the market.
This move might disappoint some users, more so those who prefer more the compact design of the USB and its affordability. However, Google would sustain support to the new devices in the form of software and security updates.
