Google has announced the release of the next iteration of its Android operating system, Android 16.

Slated to roll out earlier than its usual schedule, the update will bring improved stability and polish to apps and devices, paving the way for innovative experiences.

Earlier, the tech giant rolled out the Android 15 update in October, which is currently exclusive to Pixel phones. However, it will be available to other devices shortly.

When will Android 16 be released?

As per a recent blog post on the Android Developers Blog, the finalised version of Android 16 will be released between April 2025 and June 2025. This major SDK release will include behaviour changes, APIs, and other features.

Notably, Google usually releases Android updates in the third or fourth quarter of the year; however, this year it is likely to observe a much earlier release.

Google’s decision aims to align the rollout of Android 16 with the launch of new Android devices, ensuring a more rapid update process for eligible devices.

Following the Android 16 release, the tech giant will roll out other updates in the third quarter of 2025. This will be followed by a second, minor Android 16 SDK release in Q4 2025 and will include new APIs and features only.
