In a recent update addressing a missing feature on Pixel phones, Google has confirmed the impending arrival of the Pixel 8a.
In the Android 14's QPR1 update, Google introduced an extension of battery stats, displaying charging cycle counts and battery manufacturing dates, which was well-received. However, in the March 2024 update for Pixel phones, this feature disappeared.
According to Google's statement on a bug tracker page, this removal was intentional as the feature was never meant to appear on existing devices. Instead, Android's new battery stats are designed to be exclusive to Pixel 8a and future Pixel models. Google clarified: "We only enable this page on Pixel 8a and beyond, so this is WAI (Working as Intended)"
This revelation not only provides insight into a feature coming to future Pixel devices but also serves as Google's first official confirmation of the Pixel 8a's existence.

The reason why the feature appeared on existing Pixels and remained available for a prolonged period remains unclear. Additionally, the accuracy of the stats themselves was often questionable. However, this development hints at the possibility of Google enhancing this feature in the future, potentially incorporating detailed battery health information.
According to 9to5google, the Pixel 8a is anticipated to debut in the next few months, likely around Google I/O in May.
