Google Drive has now integrated its filter chips directly into the search bar, making it easier for users to search their files.
The free cloud-based service offers its users free storage and allows them to organise their files under different categories such as files shared with you, recently accessed files, a built-in trash can, and spam.
Google integrated the filter chip within the Drive app last year and is now upgrading this feature to provide a new way to filter files based on type, people involved, and the date it was modified on.

Taking to the Workspace Updates Blog, the search giant revealed that these enhanced filter chips within the search bar will show suggestions as a user types.
If a user is looking for a PDF or a document, they just have to type “pdf” or “doc” in the search bar and wait for the filters to appear. It will also include familiar People and Modified filters.
While the feature aims to help users find files faster, it might be confusing also as similar filters already exist below the search bar on Google Drive.
Currently, these new filters are rolling out to select Drive users only. However, the company has plans to make it available to more users by the end of this month, likely by October 22.
