What is loss of pulse?

A "loss of pulse" refers to when the heart is not beating in a life-sustaining manner caused by a variety of health conditions such as cardiac arrest, circulatory failure, respiratory failure or an overdose. This condition can occur in anyone regardless of age.

In such moments, usually quick access to emergency care is required, but many times these incidents happen when a person is alone. And if there is no one for help then chances of survival are drastically reduced.

How "loss of pulse" detector works on Pixel Watch

Google’s Pixel Watch 3 with its innovative Loss of Pulse Detection feature detects a loss of pulse and automatically contacts emergency services if the user is not responding. It will also provide information such as the user’s location, so they can get immediate medical help.

Google also explained that the watch determines a loss of pulse event not only by checking for the pulse itself, but also by looking at other physiological and motion data, and gathering it together with a smart AI-driven algorithm available on the watch.

The loss of pulse feature will initially be available on Pixel Watch 3 in select EU countries and the UK. However, more countries might be added shortly.
