Google is preparing for a change that may make it much easier to change watch faces on Wear OS smartwatches. Wear OS is Google's platform for smartwatches, allowing the easy personalisation of watch faces and tracking of fitness goals alongside access to apps.

Now, users can switch watch faces either from the watch itself or by using a companion app, but this could even get smoother.

What's new?

Rumours suggest that Google is testing a "set as watch face" button for smartphones. After the user downloads a new watch face from the Play Store, this feature will be able to apply it with just one tap.

Currently, Wear OS devices have an option to auto-set a newly installed watch face, but that is only a toggle. Most of the users like to explore their watch faces before they decide which one to use.

Wear OS new update availability

Although this new button has been spotted in the Play Store, it is not fully functional yet. However, if it is introduced, it will give Wear OS users more control over how they customise their devices.

They can install as many watch faces on their phones and apply them as they wish instead of being compelled to make a decision instantly.

This update, if released, can make the experience of using the Play Store for smartwatch users more user-friendly and flexible.

While there's no confirmation on when or if this feature will roll out publicly, it's clear that Google is working to make Wear OS customisation easier.
