Getting lashed out at is the search engine giant whose services are getting under the rubble for the past few weeks, specifically after rolling out its AI Overviews which provided odd responses to people including suggestions to eat rocks and top pizzas with glue.
Google news not loading
Reports of outages on Google News and other services surged around 8 a.m. ET, with more than 1,000 user complaints by 9 a.m. ET, according to Down Detector, a site that monitors online outages. These reports came from various locations across the US.
Google News outage resolved
Google announced it had resolved the issues causing a widespread service outage on Friday morning, which affected its search engine, news feed, and other products. Initially, Google confirmed an “ongoing issue with serving some features in Google Search” on its service dashboard but provided no further details or addressed issues with other products.
Why is Google News not working
In a follow-up post on X, Google’s search liaison account stated the glitch affected “some results on Google News, Discover, and other products, for those who have asked about specific ones.” By noon ET, Google declared, “the issue has now been resolved.” The outage's cause remains unknown.
The service disruption elicited numerous reactions from users on X and other platforms. “Google News being broken feels extremely ominous,” journalist Louis Peitzman wrote on X. “Everything Google seems to be down – search, news, calendar, etc…” one user noted on Down Detector’s forum. “News feeds are broken,” another user added.
This outage added to Google's challenges, which include issues with its AI-powered search engine feature, Overviews. Critics had pointed out bizarre responses generated by AI Overviews, such as advising users to eat rocks or add glue to their pizza. Google stated it was “taking swift action” to address these problems.
