Google Pay has launched several new features in the Global Fintech Fest 2024 to make digital payments easier for the user. Some such features are Unified Prepaid Interface (UPI) Circle, UPI Vouchers, Clickpay Quick Response code (QR) scan, and Prepaid Utility payments, among others.

What is UPI Circle?

UPI Circle allows trusted family members to make digital payments without needing a bank account, which is one of the exciting announcements.

This shall be helpful for older family members who do not have a bank account, let alone a Google Pay-linked account, and need to make some form of UPI payment. However, with the second key feature, UPI Vouchers-eRupi-users would be capable of creating pre-paid vouchers for digital payments.

The feature shall be brought to the platform in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the Department of Financial Services.

Moreover, other announced features include a Clickpay QR scan for bill payments by scanning a QR code, and this would be convenient for any user looking to make quick and easy payments.

Prepaid Utility payments allow users to make a recurring payment for a prepaid utility bill. This feature is akin to what is available on Paytm and would work across various categories. Google Pay has partnered with NPCI Bharat Billpay for the feature.

Besides this, users would even be allowed to make payments with RuPay cards via Google Pay using the Tap & Pay feature. This feature allows RuPay cardholders to simply add the card to the app and tap their NFC-enabled smartphone on any card machine to make payments.

More interestingly, the information about the card would not be saved in the app to ensure a completely secure experience of making payments. UPI Lite is getting the autopay feature, which would automatically top-up the balance in the UPI Lite account in case of a low balance.
