Google's Pixel 9 series introduced significant upgrades and enhancements, narrowing the gap between Android and the iPhones in terms of design and user experience.

While Google keeps updating its apps to enhance user experience, recent reports suggest that the tech giant appears to be testing a new UI for incoming calls in the Phone app, similar to the one existing on the iPhone, bringing Android phones even closer to iPhones.

The Phone app comes built-in on Pixel devices and various other Android phones, including Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus.

Android phones to get iPhone-like incoming call UI

An APK teardown of the latest Phone app update v145.0.672690850 revealed that the new UI for the incoming call screen is currently in the testing process.

The feature might come into service in the future and is likely to abandon the need to use swipe gestures for accepting and rejecting calls and instead, opt for dedicated buttons.

Currently, when an Android user receives an incoming call on the phone, the Google Phone app displays a button with the phone icon with a swipe-up option to answer the call or swipe down to reject the call.

However, the new UI within the Phone app features a two-button layout for managing calls. A dedicated red button on the left is to decline the call and a green button on the right to answer the call.

Though Apple places the decline button on the left and the accept button on the right this new incoming call UI will bring Android phones closer to the iPhones.

Currently, the new calling UI is being tested through server-side switches and Google is yet to announce a release date for this upcoming change.
