Google Photos has introduced a refreshed design that removes the “Memories” tab from the bottom bar, While the functionality remains unchanged, the feature has been rebranded as “Moments” and relocated under the Collections tab. This change is all set to be introduced on iOS first with an Android update anticipated soon.

Originally launched in August 2013, the “Memories” feature automatically organises user images into a scrapbook-like format.

This feature is now rebranded as “Moments,” it joins other tiles in the Collections tab, alongside People & pets, Albums, Documents, and Places. Unlike static tiles, Moments dynamically cycles through your latest photos, offering a fresh look at your captured memories.

With this significant change, the “Memories” branding refers to the carousel at the uppermost part of your main photo grid, retaining its prominent placement for easy access.

The new navigation system introduced a streamlined three-tab bottom bar featuring Photos, Collections, and Search. The updated design mirrors the approach adopted by Google Maps earlier in 2024, focusing on a cleaner interface.

The "Memories" section has now been retitled to “Moments,” following a server-side update in version 7.9 of Google Photos for iOS. The update for Android devices is likely to be introduced in the near future. The change comes following the recent rebranding of the "Sharing" tab to "Updates."
