Google on Thursday held an event titled "Agay Barho: A Google for Pakistan Event" in Islamabad, Pakistan, to reiterate its commitment to unwavering support and assist in revamping projects needed to fill in the digital void in the country's digital landscape.
Last year, the Google-backed services led to the generation of Rs3.9 trillion via Pakistani businesses and households while supporting 864,600 jobs.
A report published by Access Partnership stated that Pakistan's exports surged to a great degree, bringing in 35% of the entire export portfolio of the country.
The most significant of the key drivers of IT-backed exports is artificial intelligence (AI), which is expected to obtain an additional mark of Rs1.8tn annually by 2030.
Google Pakistan’s country director Farhan S. Qureshi reflected on the vitality of providing Pakistan's youth with much-needed skills through initiatives like Google Career Certificates and AI Essentials.
Reducing the digital skills gap could add Rs2.8tn to Pakistan's GDP by 2030, he added.
Praising the search giant's endeavours to supplement the country's economy, State Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja outlined that Google helped lay the foundations of around one million jobs for Pakistani youth in 2023.
As part of its commitment to uplifting Pakistan's workforce by offering scholarships and training programmes, Google is set to extend around 45,000 scholarships during the ongoing year in collaboration with TechValley.
On top of it, Google's support will also be fruitful to the freelancer community in the country, as well as developers and content creators, as more than 55% of watch time on Pakistani content comes from beyond borders.
