As artificial intelligence is consistently witnessing progress and rapidly integrating into several industries, Google's head of research and vice president Yossi Matias disagreed with AI taking over coding.

In his remarks refuting with widely accepted belief that AI alone will suffice for coding-related tasks, subsequently slashing the manned workforce in the realm of software development and web development, Matias stressed the importance of human coders.

In an interview with Business Insider, Google's topshot disclosed insights regarding the deployment of AI in the realm of technology, claiming that although it possesses a transformative potential, it's not going to replace human developers.

"The basic notion of learning the basic disciplines remains as important as ever. Everybody should learn how to code," he stated, affirming the relevance of coding in today’s tech landscape.

While AI tools like GitHub Copilot have predicted AI reducing coding time by nearly 70% and subsequently making traditional programming roles obsolete, Matias’s views differ from those of popular in this domain, expressing concerns over AI’s potential to automate coding tasks.

"AI may assist with certain tasks, especially at the junior level, but it is still not taking over the entire coding process," Matias explained.

Acknowledging its remarkable capability of addressing recurring tasks, he added that AI is still way off from making rational decision-making which only rests in the hands of programming geeks having aced software development.
