Google has unveiled a redesigned Search widget for the app taking away most of the options including the customisation feature.

Previously, users could extensively customise the Search’s widget appearance including background colour, icon shapes and transparency.

However, the feature also allowed users to change the Bar logo, shape, colour and shading according to their choice.

Apart from removing the customisation feature, the new widget redesign has also introduced the ability to match the system’s Dynamic Colour.

In this way, the new “Customise Search widget” can be accessed from the Google app settings with fewer options such as Google now only allows you to choose from set colour themes such as Light or Dark backgrounds with System set as the default.

Additionally, the Lens, microphone, and G icons are stuck to the official four-colour design as the search giant wants it complete control over the app.

Another new customisation option is the Transparency slider with “Undo” in the corner to reset. You can tap “Add” to place it on your home screen.

Although the Dynamic Colour feature aligns the widget with the device’s overall aesthetics but users are disappointed over the loss of the Customisation feature.

Currently, this Search widget redesign is not widely rolled out and is only available on Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones with the Google app beta (version 15.30.x).
