In response to anticipated gas shortages, the Ministry of Petroleum has decided that compressed natural gas (CNG) stations nationwide would be closed from December 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025.
This decision was made to secure sufficient gas supply for residential heating needs as demand surges during winter.
The ministry directed Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to issue shutdown orders to all CNG stations, impacting major regions such as Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh.
The load management plan, developed due to a 5% annual drop in natural gas production, will also suspend gas access for industries using gas for captive power generation.
This proactive measure underscores the government's focus on ensuring consistent residential energy supplies amidst limited natural gas resources, a recurring challenge during Pakistan's winter season.
