As the month has nearly approached the awaited fortnight, it's high time that the government disclosed if it intends to increase or decrease the price of petroleum products.

That said, according to The News, the government is likely to raise petrol price by Rs0.81 per litre and drop diesel price by Rs3.94 per litre effective from December 16, 2024 for the next fortnight.

During the ongoing fortnight which is coming to its end, those in authority might have marked the next fortnight with a trivial surge in petrol price and a considerable drop in high-speed diesel (HSD) price. As outlined by the publicationthis uneven fuel price adjustment structure was proposed owing to the consistently fluctuating international market.

Another driver of this sort of fuel price adjustment was reportedly the current regime change in Syria.

Experts believed that the rates of petroleum, oils and lubricants (POL) may come down when the ongoing political turmoil in Syria comes to a halt.

It was also reported that there's ample supply of the crude oil and POL products in the international market at the moment, but due to unstable international politics, demand has dropped.

If the aforementioned price adjustments are anything to go by, the price of petrol from December 16 may settle at Rs252.92 per litre following a hike, with diesel likely to settle at Rs254.53 per litre.
