Demonstrating strict action against those involved in spreading anti-state and fabricated narratives, the government has issued notices to individuals for allegedly sharing malicious content on social media platforms.
Suspects who were sent notices Sabghatullah Virk, Muhammad Arshad, Attaur Rehman, Azhar Mashwani, Komal Afridi, Uroosa Nadeem Shah, and M. Ali Malik, who were reportedly summoned by a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), constituted under the Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP), on December 13 for interrogation.
The JIT was established by the federal government under Section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 to probe criminal activities on social media, aiming to cause unrest in the country.
As reported by The News, the JIT will inquire the suspects to disclose the motives behind their inappropriate posts and identify partners in crime who connived to organise anti-state propaganda.
The investigation team claims to have collected evidence enough to legally bind the suspects for engaging in activities aimed at disrupting the piece.
Having digital evidence backing these allegations, the JIT will identify other individuals involved in sharing false and inflammatory content on social media and take legal action under PECA and other applicable laws.
