The federal government of Pakistan is likely to introduce PayPal and other similar payment methods to boost IT export remittances.
The decision was made during an executive meeting of the Prime Minister’s Committee on IT Export Remittances at the Finance Division, presided over by the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb.
The finance minister underscored the IT sector’s critical role as a rapidly growing industry contributing to Pakistan’s economic growth.
The meeting’s participants discussed utilising the Roshan Digital Account to facilitate remittances from IT companies and freelancers essential for Pakistan’s economic development and digital economy.
The discussion also emphasised the need for access to international payment gateways like PayPal which is currently not available in Pakistan.
Moreover, the attendees stressed the importance of creating similar payment solutions locally to empower IT professionals and freelancers.
The government’s move aims to enhance Pakistan's global competence and create a more favourable environment for IT businesses to remit their earnings.
To attain this milestone, the government is considering simplified procedures and consistent tax exemptions for freelancers while addressing issues related to remote workers.
