To curtail the online presence of terrorist groups, the federal government alongside the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to block their social media accounts.
The decision was announced during a meeting of the National Action Plan Coordination Committee presided by interior minister Mohsin Naqvi who highlighted the need to prevent such organisations and their social media activities from spreading violence-ridden propaganda among ordinary citizens.
While stressing effective collaboration between the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta) and provincial authorities, Naqvi called on all relevant departments, including PTA, to devise strategies to tackle terrorism effectively.
“Provinces must adopt comprehensive strategies to prevent the misuse of unauthorised SIM cards,” said the federal minister.
A National Fusion Centre has also been established to ensure hassle-free coordination among different agencies, claimed Naqvi.
206 terrorists were killed during 7,984 intelligence-based operations conducted across the country since October this year, disclosed briefings during the meeting.
