An issue in the security update from CrowdStrike, an American cyber security firm, caused the global IT outage affecting several airlines, businesses and other services across the world including the United States.
As a result, Microsoft Windows was badly affected by this worldwide outage while Apple remained unharmed.
Moreover, Mac users were seen working as per regular and customers and businesses were relying on Mac as Windows were offline.

However, it was Apple’s Endpoint Security Framework that kept Mac protected from this IT outage.
What is Apple Endpoint Security Framework?
Apple’s Endpoint Security Framework is a modern API toolkit designed to build security solutions for the Mac, developed to modernise the way companies interact with macOS to maintain security.
It allows developers to monitor security-related events including file system access and network connections enabling real-time monitoring of Mac’s activities and maintaining users’ privacy.
The main reason why the IT outage affected Windows was that CrowdStrike tools run at very deep levels on it while on the Mac they can’t run at those levels due to Apple’s Endpoint security.
Apple made the right decision by building this enterprise API for endpoint detection as it was not an easy task as the complete industry had to transition along it.
Because of Apple’s Endpoint Security Framework, the company is significantly less exposed to third-party problems and this is how Mac users were able to protect themselves from the recent IT outage.
