Guide to measuring elevation on an iPhone

Before you start, it is important to know that you won’t be able to see the elevation level if you haven’t turned your device location on.

Follow the steps listed below:

  • First of all, open the "Compass" app on your iPhone.
  • If using it for the first time, you'll be prompted to allow it to access your location.
  • Click on "Allow While Using App."
  • Now look at the bottom of the screen, where you’ll see the elevation under your location
  • Next, locate the listed elevation, which appears at the bottom of the screen under your location.

From iPhone 6 onwards, all the iPhones come with a barometer that calculates a device's current elevation. This data is used for multiple purposes, such as when you climb up a ladder or walk up a few floors of a building. The Compass app is installed by default on all iPhones released after the iPhone 6, which is all you need to know your elevation level with an iPhone.
