Recently, Apple’s ‘Find My’ app emerged as a key social app for keeping up with close friends and family by sharing your location.

The popular Meta-owned social media platforms including Snapchat, WhatsApp, and Instagram offer such social sharing features; however, Apple prefers its built-in Find My app and pushes it to its users.

Perks of sharing location with ‘Find My’

Location tracking

With location tracking becoming common, many people prefer sharing their location using the “Find My’ app with their loved ones as a safety measure.

Unplanned meetups

The app has created opportunities for delightful connections resulting in unplanned meetups with friends at a restaurant or airport if someone randomly spots their friend nearby through the app.

Planned Meetings

Similarly, the app is also convenient for planned meetings as despite being far from the location one could reach their destination using the Find My feature.

Furthermore, Apple has also made it easier in recent iOS versions to see and share location info. For instance, in its Messages app, the current location is now placed under a person’s contact photo.

How to share location with 'Find My'

Using the "Find My" app you can share your location with friends and family.

  1. Open the Find My app.
  2. Select the 'People' tab.
  3. Tap the Add (+) button.
  4. Select 'Share My Location.'
  5. Enter the name or phone number of the person that you want to share your location with.
  6. Then, select 'Send.'

Once sent, you have the option of sharing your location indefinitely, for an hour, or until the end of the day. While the person who you share your location with has the option to share their location back.
