Shortly after the restoration of internet services and social media platforms following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTA) rally was called off, citizens across Pakistan were reportedly facing problems while browsing, downloading and accessing popular social media platforms.

The persistent fluctuations in internet and social media outages have left netizens frustrated, causing inconvenience for them to perform everyday tasks requiring internet and social media use.

Social media down in Pakistan

Major social media apps including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram remained sluggish even after being accessed using virtual private networks (VPNs).

The outage has significantly affected operations of key sectors including businesses, education, and services that necessitate strong internet connectivity.

Citing sources, ProPakistani noted that the disruptions currently in place are likely to have stemmed from a firewall being tested by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). However, the regulatory body has so far remained tight-lipped on the matter.

The Pakistan government reinstated internet services in cities like Islamabad and Rawalpindi following a days-long suspension to maintain law and order.

However, users across the country are desperately willing to be updated by the authorities as to when the digital deadlock will be addressed.
